Our journey began in 1974 with a simple but powerful request. Jean Henry and Ruth Stanwood were asked by the local Audubon Society to answer phone calls about birds in need of help. What followed was the beginning of something extraordinary. In that very first year, more than 50 birds received care in Jean and Ruth’s home—every expense covered personally, fueled by compassion and unwavering commitment.

From those humble beginnings, we have grown into a thriving organization with far-reaching impact. Today, we care for more than 80 permanent ambassador animals and rehabilitate over 3,100 animals each year. Our mission has expanded, our programs have deepened, and—most importantly—our community of dedicated supporters has grown alongside us.
